Core Values/Goals/Strategies
2007-2012

Core Value 1 -The faculty are dedicated to providing excellence in Health Professions education.

  • Goal 1.1 Provide the highest quality education to our students and develop their critical thinking skills necessary for practice and leadership in respiratory care.
    • Stgy 1.1.1. The program will maintain full accreditation status from the Committee on Accreditation for Resp Care (CoARC) by submitting an annual report and remaining in compliance with all CoARC Threshhold criteria.
    • Stgy 1.1.2. The program will prepare students for success on their national
      Credentialing exams. AASU candidates will maintain an overall pass rate higher than the national mean on each of the 3 exams.
    • Stgy 1.1.3 The program will aggressively recruit quality students and maintain an enrollment near our capacity of 20 students per class.
    • Stgy 1.1.4 The program will maintain a job placement percentage above the national threshold level established by CoARC.
    • Stgy 1.1.5 The program will conduct an on-going evaluation of the curriculum using course evaluations, faculty surveys and outcome assessment data to identify and correct problem areas in a timely manner.
    • Stgy 1.1.6 The program will conduct an on-going evaluation of our physical resources to identify problem areas and develop action plans to correct the problems in a timely manner. Input will be solicited from students, graduates, faculty and members of the Advisory Committee.
    • Stgy 1.1.7 The program will maintain an active Advisory Committee. Advisory Committee members will have input into outcome goals and standards for CoARC and evaluation of our students, graduates and physical resources. The committee will also participate in developing action plans to address problem areas where appropriate.
    • Stgy 1.1.8 The program will continue to use graduate follow up and employer satisfaction surveys to assess the quality of our graduates.

Core Value 2 - Faculty participate in scholarly activities as a foundation for advancing improvements in clinical practice, the advancement of professional knowledge and the improvement of instruction and learning.

  • Goal 2.1 The department will foster an environment that promotes faculty development and scholarly activity.
    • Stgy 2.1.1 Whenever possible the department will provide incentives for innovative teaching methods as part of the faculty evaluation process.
    • Stgy 2.1.2 The department chairman will monitor faculty workloads in order to
      Maximize faculty effectiveness. When appropriate the department chair
      Will work with the Dean to acquire additional faculty resources.
    • Stgy 2.1.3 The faculty and department heads will continue to use the Individual
      Faculty Mission (IFM) to guide faculty development and promote
      Scholarly activity.
    • Stgy 2.1.4 The department will promote within the curriculum the concept that all
      Students become good consumers of research.
    • Stgy 2.1.5 The faculty and department chair will maintain open dialogue with
      Health care providers to identify opportunities for collaborative
      Scholarship efforts.

Core Value 3 -The faculty value commitment and responsiveness to community and professional service.

  • Goal 3.1 The department values commitment and responsiveness to community and professional service.
    • Stgy 3.1.1 Faculty service will be balanced with teaching and scholarship using
      The Individual Faculty Mission (IFM) process.
    • Stgy 3.1.2 Faculty will participate in promoting the profession and recruiting
      Quality students for the program.
    • Stgy 3.1.3 Faculty are encouraged to serve on local, state or national committees/
      Boards within the profession.
