Core Value 1 - Dedication of the faculty to excellence in teaching using a student centered approach.
- Goal 1.1 To enhance Health Sciences faculty competencies regarding innovative and advanced educational methodologies as they apply to student learning and overall curriculum needs.
- Stgy 1.1.1 All MHSA courses and MPH courses will continue to be web accessible
- Stgy 1.1.2 The Health sciences faculty will complete an assessment to determine the efficacy of the MPH and MHSA on-line programs.
- Goal 1.2 To enhance the breadth of Health Sciences faculty capabilities so that greater options for student learning and overall professional development for both faculty and students are enhanced.
- Stgy 1.2.1 Senior faculty will continue to mentor junior faculty on an informal basis.
- Stgy 1.2.2 The department will develop research and service agendas for all faculty.
- Stgy 1.2.3 The department will maintain or increase the current level of international opportunities for faculty and students.
- Goal 1.3 To promote an environment which encourages faculty to present courses in a responsive and dynamic manner that integrates both didactic and experiential learning (i.e., theory and practice).
- Stgy 1.3.1 The department will maintain or increase the current level, of community involvement in all appropriate Health Sciences Courses.
- Stgy 1.3.2 The department will maintain or increase the current level, of collaborative teaching in appropriate Health Sciences Courses.
- Stgy 1.3.3 The department will maintain or increase the current level, of community based learning opportunities for students in appropriate Health Sciences Courses.
- Stgy 1.3.4 A community-based mentorship program will be established for Health Sciences students.
- Stgy 1.3.5 Applicable courses and comprehensive assessments will incorporate real-world case study approaches to learning.
- Stgy 1.3.6 A human performance laboratory will be created to enhance MSSM learning experiences.
- Goal 1.4 To maintain accreditation in the Health Services Administration and MPH programs and investigate accreditation of the MSSM program.
- Stgy 1.4.1 A systematic assessment system will be developed to facilitate programmatic decision making.
- Stgy 1.4.1.a. All programmatic data collection systems will be evaluated and/or redesigned to meet programmatic decision making.
- Stgy 1.4.11.b. Competency-based objectives will be developed for each program/course.
- Stgy 1.4.2 Any significant modifications to the MPH, MHSA or MSSM programs will be based on specific program accreditation criteria and will be reflective of critical trends in the fields.
- Goal 1.5 The Health Sciences Department will complete a comprehensive review of the BHS program.
- Stgy 1.5.1 A systematic assessment system will be developed to facilitate programmatic decision making.
- Stgy 1.5.1.a. All programmatic data collection systems will be evaluated and/or redesigned to meet programmatic decision making.
- Stgy 1.5.1.b. Competency-based objectives will be developed for each program/course.
- Stgy 1.5.2 The BHS exit exam will be revised in order to reflect the assessment of competency-based objectives.
- Stgy 1.5.3 Programmatic/course changes will be made as a result of this review.
- Goal 1.6 To continue to explore new curricular options at both the degree and certification levels to meet ever-changing professional needs of our service area.
- Stgy 1.6.1 The programs in the Health Sciences Department will continue to meet with advisory committees on a regular basis to garner input on the needs of the service area
Core Value 2 - Participation of faculty in scholarship activities as a foundation for providing improvements in clinical practice, the advancement of professional knowledge and the improvement of instruction and learning.
- Goal 2.1 To promote a positive environment for the enhancement of faculty scholarly activity while balancing teaching and service expectations.
- Stgy 2.1.1. The Health Sciences Department will promote collaborative research partnerships via sharing faculty research interests with faculty at AASU and other institutions, including health care facilities in the service area.
- Stgy 2.1.2. The department will develop departmental research expectations. Research objectives for each faculty member will be based on these expectations.
- Goal 2.2 To explore opportunities to integrate scholarship into teaching and learning as a fundamental mission of the department.
- Stgy 2.2.1 The Health Sciences Department will continue to incorporate appropriate, relevant data sets and/or case studies into relevant courses.
- Stgy 2.2.2 The Health Sciences Department will continue to maintain or increase student participation in faculty research projects.
Core Value 3 -The faculty value commitment and responsiveness to community and professional service.
- Goal 3.1 To enhance the recognition of the Health Sciences Department within the AASU service area as a valued community resource and cooperative partner for health information and research.
- Stgy 3.1.1. The Health Sciences Department will continue the applied student practicum/internship experience at the graduate level.
- Stgy 3.1.2. The BHS practicum will be evaluated and possibly redesigned as an optional honors experience for qualified undergraduates.
- Stgy 3.1.3. The Health Sciences Department will continue to collaborate with the appropriate AASU entities to market/advertise all Health Sciences programs.
- Stgy 3.1.4. The Health Science Department will continue to focus its research and service activities on applied research activities in the AASU service area.
- Stgy 3.1.5. The department will develop departmental service expectations. Service objectives for each faculty member will be based on these expectations.
